Cole Attisha – Policy Expert
Cole is a lifelong resident of the Canadian Pacific Northwest, having been raised in Vancouver, B.C. and eventually migrating to Vancouver Island. He is a published automotive journalist and aspiring legal professional. Cole’s passion for the pursuit of law fuels his deep dive into Canadian government policies created to combat the destructive elements of our country’s forestry industry while simultaneously balancing the economic necessity.
Tenzin Clegg – Environmental Impact Journalist
Born and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Tenzin developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Vancouver Island and the province’s rich ecosystems. His love for BC’s dense, ecologically important rainforests sparked an interest in the issue of deforestation in BC. As a contributor to the Webzine, Tenzin specializes in exploring the connection between deforestation and carbon emissions in BC, and writes about the devastating impacts of clear-cutting ancient forests.
Isabelle Bate – Wildlife Expert
Izzy has lived on Lekwungen territory her whole life. She is an avid animal enthusiast and is pictured with one of her gerbils, Nugget. Izzy is a gender studies major and psychology minor at the University of Victoria. Izzy’s webzine contributions, will focus on the effects of deforestation and the logging industry on endangered species in British Columbia such as the Northern Spotted Owl.
Brayden Gardner – Indigenous Consult
Brayden is an English and Business student at the University of Victoria. Being a part of the Matsqui First Nation, he has always valued the immaculate, natural landscape that has provided for ages. As a business student, he recognizes how essential cooperation and compromise is within the lens of balancing indigenous practices with economic needs. Brayden’s webzine will focus on the role of indigenous stewardship in the context of logging and deforestation, and how it could be the key to a sustainable future for Canada.
Madison Wang – Logging and Ecology Expert
Madison grew up in the province of beautiful British Columbia her whole life but only developed an appreciation for natural landscapes later. Growing up, she was surrounded by the city and had little exposure to BC’s rich ecosystems. Moving to Vancouver Island sparked a love for nature she never knew she had. As a contributor to the webzine, Madison will focus on environmental challenges due to the logging industry and how to balance economic development and ecological sustainability.
